Late Night with Conan O-Brien Transcript, note this is not the real transript, just what this site has written from hearing the show. Not everything is exact, but pretty close.
CONAN: Alright everybody, were back. And only 18 years old my next guest makes his movie debut starring in "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" opening theatres today, please welcome William Moseley. How you doing?
WILLIAM: I'm very very well, thank you.
CONAN: Alright, now obviously you're far way from home, you're from Great Britain .
WILLIAM: Indeed
CONAN: Indeed. Ahh, are you enjoying New York City? Do you like it here?
WILLIAM: I love it here. I'm just suprised with all the Christmas trees.
CONAN: Well, ahh yeah. Do you mean how many of them there are?
WILLIAM:Well yeah I mean there huge. In mean in London we don't have half as many as we do out here, its, it's just amazing.
CONAN: Isn't, it's not the same thing, I mean they don't make such a deal over there do they, they have like Christmas. But here we go for giant trees all over the place, plastic marching snowman, (William says "exactly" and laughs) Santa shooting lasers you know.
WILLIAM: Yeah, it's something along those lines. Um, I was quite suprised, yeah, it seems to be that each um hotel or each ah you know um store seems to trying out do each other, each man is trying to bigger himself. I mean it does suprise me I have to say.
CONAN: That's just our whole culture is who can push it further and each Christmas it gets crazier and crazier and that's the great thing about this country. We even forgotten what Christmas is about in the first place. (jokes) This is the day Santa was born. (audience laughs, William agrees)
WILLIAM:Yeah, ah anyways.
CONAN: Which I'm very proud of that um now your ah, your your where, where abouts are you from in England?
WILLIAM: I'm actually from the Cotfields, it's very rural, it's not London, its rolling hills um very beautiful but um.
CONAN: It's nice there I bet, I bet its really nice, now did you, now you shot this movie in New Zeland is that correct?
WILLIAM:Righ right right
CONAN: Was it tough, I mean you had to leave your, your a very young person when you started doing this movie who old were you? Were you like 17, 16?
WILLIAM: Well, they started auditioning for me at 15 years old and that was an 18 month process and then I had a um had some months in New Zeland at 17 years old
CONAN: Now that would be I ah didn't leave home for quit a while I think I was in my late thirties (everyone laughs) that was like six weeks ago. Ah, and I'm still ajusting to this world but, but was it tough for you to leave you know your family your friends and go to New Zeland, was that hard?
WILLIAM: Um well you know the thing is I sort of relish this challenge I was thinking you know because a lot of people in England take this gap which is a year out for Univeristy or college and um you know I said to dad I will take a year out you know and I will be cool and ill be you know, ill spend some time by myself I spent around three months by myself. I remeber when my dad left um he uh you know and I was thinking ill be cool by myself, have my own house you know um and he left he said goodbye. And I was wait a minute, he is actual leaving, so, so I got back to the house um I was feeling absolue lonesome you know like so I started to turn everything on I mean I was obssessively compulsive turning on the light switch on, the microwave on, the radio, the t.v., I mean it was crazy!
CONAN: Just because you were afraid, I think turning on the microwave was probably a bad idea. (audience laughs)
WILLIAM: Good thing I didn't burn the house down.
CONAN: Yeah, my head is still glowing
WILLIAM: Um yeah, it was kind of wierd.
CONAN: Yeah so so um, so what would you do if you got really bored? Was there any place you could go was there anything you could do was there a place where people gather?
WILLIAM: Um, yeah I mean its much like the rest of this world New Zeland actually, you can go out, you can go to the cinema. So yeah, it was. We did do all those kind things, it was fabulous like um it was like it was amazing that New Zelanders are so welcoming there are like a crew that bring everyone on board and we went out out to the cinemas you know and we did all these great things and um I would like to say but we did go to the pub every night.
CONAN: You went to the pub? But you said you started doing this movie when you were 15, 16 years old.
WILLIAM:17
CONAN: 17,ah is it legal to go to a pub when your that age in New Zeland?
WILLIAM:Oh yeah, I think if you're with an adult and you;re ah with an adult enivronment I think it's fine. I mean, I use to have a pub at my school. (audience laughs)
CONAN: You think, you clearly haven't, you clearly haven't researched this, I think it's okay. I include a mustache to my face. (William laughs)
WILLIAM: I um, I got the um eyes pretty much.
CONAN: Well it is different in Europe though. I mean when I was in Ireland I mean people it's more of a uh it's not like it is here. There are more people in the pubs, there were like kids running around in the pubs. Yeah.
WILLIAM: Well I mean I use to have a pub at my school funny enough uh and so..
CONAN: Wait, back it up, you had a pub back at your school?!
WILLIAM: Ah yes I use to have a pub back at my school so we
CONAN: So what kind of school is this, I mean who can we all join (audience laughs). I mean really there is a pub I mean what
WILLIAM:I mean honeslty um I just I mean they because it was a boarding school so they kind of knew you knew what are kids going to do at night or at the weekends I mean their going to the pub anyway, so they felt why not have it in the school you know. (everyone laughs)
CONAN: What kind of logic is that, and then there probably going to be looking for hookers at some point so lets supply them ourselves. That is some weird logic at a school. So literally you, you'd be like finishing your uh exams in 5th grade and be like thats knock back a ginues everybody.
WILLIAM: Well, well you had to be 16 you have to be 16. Rules are rules, you have to start when your 16. It's not out here when you have to be 21. But I mean I think it was kind of good just because the teachers had some control of the kids and they were like you know this is the drinking time.
CONAN: Sure, the kids are smashed, they won't get in any trouble.
WILLIAM:Well, they can't get in trouble no.
CONAN: Uh know lets talk about this movie Narnia which is a highly anticipated based on the C.S. Lewis uh series. Uh, there is a video game of course as there is with, with most big movies like this big budget movies and your character is in the video game now. Uh is, is it fun have you played it?
WILLIAM: Uh, well my brother's played it and that's a grand thing about having family, he's younger then me and has killed me several hundred times actually. (audience laughs) And now, I think that was in the first 10 minutes of getting the video game. And the second thing he complained about the video game was that there wasn't enough blood and that I don't die well enough, whether we have to re-adjust we you know..
CONAN: That's an intersting way for a younger brother to take out his hostility lets just murder him in the video game.
WILLIAM: I think basically it's an advancement of vodoo. I mean I have a feeling it's something along these lines. But I wasn't actually sure I liked the video game so I sat down for about four and a half hours non-stop.
CONAN: Did you find yourself killing yourself?
WILLIAM:Um, what did happen I did with my character with a bigger sword.
CONAN: You know it's a big sign of success in this country, a huge sigh of success in this country when you become a Mc'Donalds Happy Meal treat. And you achieve that. Kids are going to be playng with this character when they have a big mac or something it's incrediable.
WILLIAM: But the only thing I have about this is that I have ginger hair, I have this orange hair.
CONAN: What's wrong with orange hair?! (Conan has orange hair)
WILLIAM: I mean I love it but mine
CONAN: It's a sign of Verility in this country. You have ginger hair lets get it on. (audience laughs)
WILLIAM: I mean it does have some great moves
CONAN: It's got some great sword moves there. Yeah look at that. I'll get you by moving the sword 3 inches up and down.
WILLIAM: Yeah its height, its great.
CONAN: Ah, and of course Narnia is based on as I said the C.S. Lewis classic. We have a clip here and we can say what is happening in this clip right here, what's happening?
WILLIAM: Um, well basically were being chased by the wolves and it's actually added in the script and um the wolves chase us and I basically have a choice of kiiling the wolve or getting my brother back by bagaining with the wolf but I stick my sword in the ice and the water breaks and the water engulfs us myself and my two sisters.
CONAN: You just described everything in the clip and there is no reason to show it. (audience laughs) Lets see it, let us take a look right now at the clip from "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe."
Plays clip to audience. Audience claps and cheers after the clip is finished.
CONAN: Ah "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe."
is in theatres now. Hey, ah thanks for being here, nice meeting you.
(William says a reply but I couldn't catch it)
